“It was one of those days where everything that bit was 14 inches instead of 4 pounds. I had one big bite today and didn’t get it. Grand Lake is one of those lakes where when the wind doesn’t blow it can be really tough. I’m mad at myself for wasting time fishing spots I never fished in practice and not getting bit. I just have so many places where I’ve caught them this time of year.
“There are two things I don’t like during the prespawn on Grand Lake-- no wind or wind out of the south that goes against the natural current flow. I’ll take a wrong wind over no wind though. I’m putting all my jerkbaits up and pulling out a flipping stick and spinnerbait. Something happened today and I think they went 2 feet deep.
“Today Ike and I met in one pocket and we had more than 150 boats watching us between the two flotillas. You can’t fish a whole area with an armada following with you because you fish one little spot and they fill the rest of the area. I love having fans following us. And they are staying off of me and I have not seen one guy with a fishing rod. So I’m not upset at all but it does change how you fish. “
